The officers include: President Patrick Gray, Vice President Vincent Ellis, Vice President of Programs Christopher Grady, Secretary Justin Whitaker, Treasurer Jonathan Amos, Communication Director Ameer McMillian, Membership Director Kelvin Washington, Marketing Director Ryan Richard, Historian Jerald Hubbard, Parliamentarian Ryan Turner, Sargent-at-Arms Frederick Fox, and Chaplain Ross Hampton. Dr. Clement Glenn and Frederick V. Roberts will serve as the University Advisor and the 100 Black Men Adviser, respectively.
The Chapter had a tremendous year of activities while making an impact at the university. The chapter began the year with several programs and instituted a
mentoring program with the CyFair ISD schools. The Collegiate 100 of Prairie View A&M
University supports and participate in the Mentoring the 100 Way project of the
100 Black Men of Metropolitan Houston, Inc. Twice a month, members the
Collegiate 100 travels to Houston to work with the kids (30 - 8-12th graders)
and provide information on college life and also tutor students in Math and
Science. Additionally, the Collegiate 100 is participating in In-School
Mentoring Programs at Cyfair Elementary and Hempstead High. The students
provided pep talks on college and life in general. The latest project for the
Collegiate 100 is their Boys2Men Mentoring program on campus. Along with
Residence Hall Manager, The Collegiate hosts seminars with the men and women
residents. The chapter also supported Breast Cancer Awareness at the university
by distributing literature and pink ribbons to the students and faculty to raise
awareness of the disease.
Several members of the Collegiate 100 assisted with the creation and
establishment of the 100 Collegiate Women of America, Inc. at the university. Forty of the most talented, progressive and
dynamic women at the university answered the call and were inducted in the
Prairie View A&M University Chapter on November 4, 2011.
One highlight for the chapter was the implementation of its Kick-Back
Fundraiser dance at the local hall in Hempstead, which drew a large attendance.
On November 11, 2011 the chapter welcomed 11 young men into its membership.
These young men come from varied backgrounds and cultures and have come into
the chapter like a quiet storm. The new members are: Richard Atiba, Charles
Babaoye, Cedarious Barnes, Giovanni Burton, Breenen Jackson, Armand Kincade,
Keith Lewis, Sterling Mark, Ameer McMillan, Ryan Richard and Ryan Turner.
The Chapter also participated in the chartering and induction of members
into the Collegiate 100 of Texas Southern University on December 2, 2011.
The Collegiate 100 made life better for some 300 kids during the Christmas
holiday. On December 21, Dymonique Burton, Chapter Vice President along with
Advisers Dr. Clement Glenn and Frederick V. Roberts Esquire will descend on
several housing complexes in Navasota, Texas to deliver toys and clothing to
the children. The Give a Kid a Good Christmas program began with a fund drive
from the student residents at Prairie View A&M University and supplemented
with personal and chapter funds to purchase the goodies for the kids. Several
ladies of the 100 Collegiate Women of America, Inc. also joined in to help
collect funds and toys for the project. Thanks to all who helped to make the
project a success.
In spring 2012, the chapter inducted 8 young men into the membership
and continued its aggressive program thrust with activities to address the
freshmen men at the university. The new members are: Jonathan Amos, Cameron Gordon, Chris Grady, Olatunde Idowu, Tyrell Kirby and Blake Martin. These young men are also participating in the various programs that impact the lives of the children at CyFair.
The Chapter hosted the first Career Expo for the students at the
University. The presenters included Mrs. Cheryl Granger Brooks, General Manger, KPVU; Mr. Ben McMillan, Registered
Architect and Instructor at PVAMU; Mr.
Ronald C. Green, JD, Controller, City of Houston; Mr. Ron Douglas, Entrepreneur
and owner of Winner in U Inc.; Mr. Jarrett W. Simmons, Asst. Director, Houston
Airport System; Dr. Clement Glenn, Professor, College of Education and Collegiate
Advisor; and Mr. Russell Apelget,
Financial Consultant and Finance Instructor at PVAMU. The panel shared their
experiences and what they believed it takes to become successful in a chosen career.
